Diana`s Math Question.

14. Saida owned 125 shares of an oil company. One day, the value of each share dropped by $0.31. The next day, the value of each share rose by $0.18. What was the total change in the value of Saida's shares?
What we know:
-Saida owns 125 shares.
-drops by $0.31
-rose by $0.18
drops means it went down. (-)
rose means it went up. (+)
Now, add -$0.31 and $0.18
(-$0.31)+ $0.18= -$0.13
Now, multiply -$0.13 by 125.
125(-$0.13) = -$16.25
The answer is -$16.25
The total change in the value of Saida's share was $16.25.

  1. Great job Diana! I really like how you showed the integer signs for drop and rose. I think the only thing you should've done was tell us why you mulitplied $0.13 by 125.

  2. Good job Diana! I like how you explained really well on how you got your answer. I also like that you showed what rose and drop means using integer signs. I think that what you could've done was explain a bit more in each step like why is (-$0.31) + $0.18 is $0.13 and not $0.49. But overall good job.
