Chapter 2.3: Question #26

The question I was given:


Step 1:
The first thing I did was read over the question and realize that to get the answer, you'd have to use the opposite operation that it told you to. For example, if it told you to add 2, you'd actually have to subtract 2.


Step 2:
The first thing I did was take the answer which is -3 3/4 and multiply it by -1/4. To do this, the first thing you'd have to do is change the mixed number to an improper fraction. This would get you to -15/4. You then simply multiply this by -1/4 and get 15/16. Remember to use the sign rules!


Step 3:
The next thing I did was take the answer from my first step which is 15/16 and subtract 3/4. Remember that you must always find a common denominator. In this case, it was 16. So, you take 15/16 and subtract 12/15 from it. After doing this, I got 3/16.


Step 4:
The final step I took to get the answer was take my step 3 answer and divide it by -1/2. To do this, I used reciprocals as shown in my picture.


In conclusion, the original fraction was -3/8.

You explained every step well, and you have a lot of information to support your details. Although, I would add in a link or video as well. Overall, you did a great job!
